This image of my dog and my little sister isn't the best "copy" of the original photo, because they're a different person/dog. But both are in identical poses and show a girl with a light colored Labrador retriever. I tried to catch an actually fun(ny) moment of them playing around so the love and joy would come through. The original picture was taken in a house, someone's home, representing a moment of their life. I tried to renew that idea by setting it up outside, where our dog is always at, where my sister goes to play and where they make beautiful memories together, so it would show a part of me, my family and our happy place. Lemme have sum
The image above is unique and funky. It's an unusual and sweet moment, of our dog sniffing an egg that has been drawn on. Both the original picture and mine have the same supplies and subjects making it look similar. The background on the other hand is different. For me, the feeling of playing, childhood, and happiness comes through with both images, which was my main goal. And although the facial expression of the dogs are not the same either, the way they look curiously at the painted egg shows similarities. Thinking out loud
This is my mom. A completely different person from the original one. With a bit different lighting and background, but with the same intent. In both images, the natural light shines on to the face with a blurred out background so the eyes can focus on the person. They’re both black and white portraits, with a woman in focus (with her hair up, and wearing a little earring). The angle of the head is also very similar and the distance from the face that the photo was taken from as well. |

#1. What’s your personal background?
(Culture, nationality, schooling, and a few important life events, or things you’re proud of
"I am from a very large family and am the youngest of 8. As a result, family is very special to me! I’m mostly Polish with a lot of Heinz 57, LOL! In other words my dad had Romanian, Irish and French, I believe. My mom is 100% Polish. Ive been married to my boyfriend for almost 31 years!! I am a momma to 4 AMAZING humans! We have our first wedding this summer! (Our son) As for schooling, I am a registered nurse by degree. I went to a diploma program which no longer exist, which is a very hands-on rich instruction and very clinical! I just loved the schooling and I’ve done a lot of different types of nursing (23 years) currently I am a pre-anesthesia testing nurse...meaning I do calls and screen people for ophthalmic surgeries. Photography has been Mostly self taught. I’ve taken a few workshops here and there and some mentorships-Studying under people whose style I admire. I’ve done a lot of online photography instruction as well. Most important life events: my relationship with Jesus. My wedding day and the days my children were born. Life changing, forever. I am most proud of our kids. 4 amazing humans. I am blessed and privileged that God allowed us to be their parents. Myself?...my photography. I still have much to learn, however, I am proud of myself in all I have learned thus far and am excited to see what I will do, with and through, my photography and my business." (-Lynda Fabry)
#2. What’s your style like? (What visual characteristics does your art work possess? If it can be compared to a painting or art history then examples for that)
"I would say timeless, romantic would be my style. My desire is to tell stories with my photos. In as much as posed photos have their place, I pursue more of the emotive “in-between” shots, When the subject is just doing what they love or something I’ve asked them to do and I am driven to capture the emotive moments that evoke connection, passion and uniqueness.
I characterize myself as a lifestyle/journalistic photographer. I want people to feel like they could experience that moment I’ve captured and feel something when they view it." (-Lynda Fabry)
#3. Philosophy (What were your major ideas about your work? Are they usually personal, political, social, etc. What was your message with these photos?)
"I would say mostly personal and social. I think when I take photos, even if I’m photographing someone I’ve just met, I put so much of myself into the session, yet my primary goal is to show THEIR beauty and uniqueness, for all the viewers to celebrate it.
I also have very deep faith, so often, I share words that God has put on my heart for a photo, that aids in telling its story.
My message in my Photography is that each individual is amazingly beautiful! Whatever you are being captured in, whether by yourself, as a couple or in a group, YOU are awesome and have much to offer to the world in your unique design and talents! I love to portray JOY, but also that even in struggles, there is beauty. Sometimes those rough circumstances when a photo captures that moment, it can exude such emotion, that people can relate and words of hope can let people know, they’re not alone." (-Lynda Fabry)
#4. Influence (How has the photographer influenced you in your work?)
I met Ms. Lynda about a year ago, when I joined X2 (a pre-professional contemporary dance company) where we had a photoshoot with her. It was an amazing experience. She was working fast but comfortably, she gave us time as artists to figure things out on our own, but she also helped when we got stuck with poses. She treated us as colleagues, we worked TOGETHER! She also invited us to her own world; photography. Whenever we, as dancers, came up with a pose idea she would make us move our head/hair, or jump and do the same pose...it was weird at first but then I understood what she wanted to see. Motion. It was amazing to see how some turned out so dramatic that you could almost feel the energy flowing through the picture itself, and all of them were moving. There was always something going on, like a busy person's life; always going somewhere, doing something, never stopping, but in a positive and fun way. It's almost like she put her own little bubble of joy and happiness into our movements. It amazed me how much fun the whole process was, and she also inspired me to try taking photos of people, animals, catch busy moments, and enjoy the happy moments of love. The three images I recreated from her Instagram are all based on portraits, people, dog(s). Although my subjects weren't the same people/dogs as her original images, I feel like she was encouraging me to translate it to my own. She inspired me to capture some fun moments with my little sister, mom and our dog Lili.
#5. Personal Artist Statement
I chose these 3images to recreate from Ms. Lynda, because they caught my attention right away. First of all, it wasn’t impossible to recreate. But also because I love dogs, I obviously have one myself...very similar to the one she used. It was easy to relate to the idea of loving dogs and taking photographs of them. And I love my mom, little sister and dog so it was easy to work with them.
The story behind these images is love and joy. They all show playing around, thinking and loving each other. All three are peaceful and calm. Kind of quiet in a way, but they all show some kind of hidden movement. Either with mind (portrait of my mom) or the other two poses, because even though it’s an arranged pose, it’s just a pause from movement.
